Dancing Both Shows:
We would like to take this time to inform you that your child is required to perform in both the Friday evening and Saturday matinee performances. For Creative dancers we do recommend that you purchase the Saturday Matinee show only as after they are done their dance on Friday we recommend that you pick up your child at intermission and bring them home.
The studio invites all parents to remain seated throughout the entire performance. You not only support your child who is on stage but also all the other dancers who have worked extremely hard. This is a wonderful performance and you will not be disappointed!
We will require several parent helpers to assist in the change room for our young dancers which would include: Creative, Pre-Primary, Primary, Grade 1 Ballet, Grade 2 Ballet, Tiny Tappers, Pre Tap, Junior Tap 1, Junior Tap 2, Jr Jazz 1, Junior Jazz 2, Pre Acro/Pre Jazz, Jr Hip Hop, and Jr Acro 5.
Volunteers needed Saturday May 5th through to Saturday May 18th, 2018 Dads can help too!!! Duties involve parent helpers on the days of our run through at the studio, packing up sets and props at the studio, working backstage to monitor students, quick change support and runners etc. In order to help the show run smoothly we need at least one parent from each senior class and multiple parents for more junior classes. No experience is required. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are able to help – send an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or sign up at the front desk. You can let us know if you have a preferred area of interest. Backstage volunteers will need to help both during the dress rehearsals and one of the show time slots.
High School Community Service
Do you have children not in the show that need volunteer high school hours? Our dance production is a fun and excellent opportunity.
Before and after they perform:
A helper/volunteer will escort the children backstage until they are ready to perform, the helper will wait for them in the wings and bring them back to their dressing room where they must remain until the finale.
Videos and Cameras
No videos or cameras are permitted during the performance or rehearsals due to theatre policies. As well, Flash cameras are dangerous to the performers. Our main videographer has been given to permission to video and you will be able to purchase a copy of the production. DVDs on sale now at our front desk (DVD $35.00 and Blue Ray $45.00) Cash or cheque payable to Le Jazz Hot, please come see Wendy to pre order. This is a wonderful keepsake!
Please be advised that dancers are not permitted to wear their costumes in the auditorium before, during, intermission and after, as we would like to keep the magic for the audience. After your child’s number the costumes must be taken off and placed back in their labelled garment bag for their next performance for the matinee show on Saturday. Your child will be able to take all their costumes home after the last performance on Saturday.
For those students that are in Grade 4 Ballet/Pre Intermediate 1 Jazz and up we will be asking that your child take their costumes home on Tuesday May 15th, 2018. The only costumes that will be transported to the theatre will be all the junior students: Creative, Pre-Primary, Primary, Grade 1 Ballet, Grade 2 Ballet, Tiny Tappers, Pre Tap, Junior Tap 1, Junior Tap 2, Jr Jazz 1, Junior Jazz 2, Pre Acro/Pre Jazz, Jr Hip Hop, and Jr Acro 5.
Parent Helpers – Thank you in advance!
FROM OLD HANDS TO NEW – SHOW TIPS FOR FIRST TIME PARENTS OF THE SCHOOL
The end of year production is always an exciting time for students and teachers alike but it is also a very busy time. Here are a few tips and suggestions with input from experienced parents.
We ask that no child walk in the theatre bare foot please be sure to bring shoes, flip flops or slippers with you. NO CHILD IS TO WALK AROUND THE THEATRE COMING FROM UPSTAIRS TO DOWNSTAIRS IN TAP SHOES.
There will be full run-throughs at the studio as well as a spacing rehearsal and dress rehearsal at the theatre. Block off the dates below and please see the attached detailed schedule outlining these important rehearsals. Keep the entire week in advance of the show clear of commitments to avoid schedule conflicts (unfortunately this may mean missing birthday parties, other extra-curricular activities, etc). Please make every effort to attend ALL classes in the weeks up to the show, as all children need each other and benefit when all dancers are present. In addition if your child is absent they risk being under rehearsed which will show on stage and make it uncomfortable for your child. We want this to be a pleasant and exciting time for everyone!!!!
TIP 1: Block off your calendar on Saturday May 5th, Sunday May 6th, and Tuesday May 8th, to Saturday May 19th, 2018

TIP 2: Be prepared for some schedule changes and extra rehearsals
In the last month of rehearsals prior to the show the school may need to adjust class times or add in extra rehearsals. Please read notice boards, bulletins and emails regularly to stay tuned of any updates. Do not be shy to ask reception if you need clarification or have any questions. We modify the schedule based on the needs of each class, show scenes and practicing with props. Sometimes these rehearsals may be a late notice; we appreciate your cooperation and understanding. You can also check the website under show tab for additional information.
TIP 3: Don’t wait until the last minute – Prepare what you can in advance
Last minute preparation during show week only adds stress to both students and parents. The following checklist summarizes the school’s expectations for each student when they arrive at the theatre for both dress rehearsals and performances. Read through the list now and ensure you have all the tights, shoes, make-up and hair supplies you need well in advance.
Home preparations checklist:
- Label your shoes with your full name on masking tape on the insole (not on the sole or on the sides)
- Ensure all shoes are clean and elastics are secure. (A little
- Foundation is good to cover spots on shoes!)
- Intensive dancers, new ballet shoes may be in order.
- Ensure tights are clean, with no runs or holes, and labelled with your name. Some dancers will need convertible foot tights to accommodate quick changes. Everyone wears the same colour tights.
- Ensure you have a spare pair of tights to bring on show day
- Ensure you have hair supplies (elastics and wide bobby pins and narrow bobby pins, hair net, brush, hairspray, hair gel)
- Ensure you have make-up: foundation, red lipstick, brown shadows, eyeliner and mascara (the lights are bright and wash out faces) & makeup remover. The director has decided that all students on stage wear the same colour of lipstick which we will announce shortly.
- We highly recommend buying a nude bodysuit for changing purposes for your daughter in several numbers
- Once received, label all costumes with your name
At the theatre:
- Theatre is air-conditioned, bring a cardigan sweater or big shirt (open front) to protect costume
- No jewelry including earrings, nose rings, navel rings
- No tattoos, no nail polish, no dyed hair
- Slippers no bare feet
- Leave your valuables at home
- The School is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Please encourage your child to keep all personal belongings labelled and in their own dance bag.
TIP 4: Plan to contribute food for the students to share backstage
Students and volunteers work hard during performance season and are at the theatre for extended periods of time. The school has established a system where all performers contribute food to share throughout the day on Friday and Saturday. The school assigns each class with specific items to ensure an appropriate mix is available. Please see the attached list to review what is expected from your child’s class. Note: Each dancer should bring their own bottled water, labelled with their name (no glass bottles please).
TIP 5: Ensure your child is well rested for the big week
Help your student perform their best by getting a good night’s sleep
Flowers to be presented
Cash donation of your choice is greatly appreciated which goes towards flowers that are presented at the end of each show, to the teachers and helpers as they have done an extremely great job working with your children since the beginning of the year. Please come see Wendy at your earliest.
If you are a business owner and wish to have your business card placed in our program please see the attached information. In order to have your business card in our program we require a jpeg file emailed to the studio or please bring in a business card to the front desk no later than Saturday April 28nd, 2018.
PICTURE DAY – Picture Day May 6th Schedule
The school will take official photos at the studio on Sunday May 6th, 2018. The professional photographer will take both group and individual photos in show costumes that parents may order. Please keep this day free as we like all students to participate in the group photos. As the children will be wearing their costumes for photo day we ask that once your child is done please have all costume, accessories returned into your child’s proper garment bag as we do not want any missing items for the upcoming show. As the studio will be very busy and a lot of costumes will be taken off hangers etc., we would appreciate that the junior parents stay and help their child to ensure all items of their costume are placed properly into their garment bag. For the parents of Grade 5 ballet and up we would appreciate various hands of help as well.
