February 2018 Newsletter
Hello Parents and Students!
How time flies by, already the month of February!!! Just a few months ago we were in full swing of preparing our dancers for our Christmas Show.
Just a friendly reminder that Saturday January 27th, 2018 was the first day of our second term therefore, registrations for any new classes in our second term are now closed.
February is shaping up to be a busy month with lots of exciting things happening.
February 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, we will be holding our RAD Workshops for those students in Grade 4 Ballet to Advanced 2 Ballet. We are delighted and have the pleasure of having Carman Cairns who began her training at the Arts Educational School, continuing on to the Royal Ballet School, London to gain her teaching qualifications. From there she has proceeded to teach internationally, and can now be found teaching courses for the Royal Academy of Dance across Canada.
For those students entering into Grade 7 or higher in September 2018 and would like to audition for Quinte Ballet School of Canada Summer Intensive Program, auditions will take place at Vanessa Plettell Dance on Saturday February 10th, 2018 from 4:00-6:00. For more information please see their website.
Other important dates in February
- Saturday February 10th, 2018 we will be holding a Valentine’s Bake Sale please be sure to bring in your yummy baked goods. However, kindly make sure that ALL items are peanut and nut free.
- Sunday February 11th, 2018 – Mock Exams schedule previously emailed
- Sunday February 25th, 2018 – Vocational Exams Ballet Exams – schedule previously emailed
- Monday February 26th, 2018 –Ballet Exams – schedule previously emailed
We would like to take this time in wishing all our dancers participating in the RAD Ballet Exams good luck!!
As competition is right around the corner we are asking those students participating in competition to make every effort to attend all rehearsals. If your child is not at a team practise, the whole team suffers. If you miss a team practise you are not improving your skills, and you will fall behind the other dancers on the team. Being at every rehearsal ensures that you are learning the routine, partnering, formations, synchronization and all other components of the dance. We do understand that some of you have had previous commitments and have not been able to attend a rehearsal however we appreciate your clarification and for letting, the front desk know as well as Ms. Plettell and the teachers.
We will be holding competition rehearsals over March Break on Tuesday March 13th, 2018 and Thursday March 15th, 2018 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm for those students that are here in town and would like to come in and run their Solos, and Duets only.
There will be Mandatory competition rehearsals Sunday March 18th, Monday March 19th, and Tuesday March 20th, 2018 – We are just putting together a schedule and will be sent out shortly. Wednesday March 21st, 2018 will be a day of rest before our first competition as noted below:

Other Important Notes
We are still noticing that students are not coming to dance with their water bottles, we are asking that every child coming to dance please bring in your water bottles. The desk can get very busy at times and cannot always get your child water before the teacher requires them back in class.
We are also noticing a lot of items are being left behind at the studio, sweaters, pants, shorts, tops, water bottles etc. and unfortunately these items are not labelled. Please be sure your child has all their belongings before they leave.
We are asking parents to respect the time that their child is to be picked up once they are finished dance. We understand from time to time due to weather or traffic it is beyond your control, however if you are going to be late please call the front desk.
Our front area gets very busy at times and we have noticed that there are a lot of boots not being placed on our shoe rack. If there is room we are kindly asking that you please place them on the rack this way it will make more room for those parents coming in to pick up their children. Thank you to the parent who took it upon themselves to pick up all the boots at the front mat and place them on the rack…. THANK YOU!!!
Please also label ALL bodysuits, dance shoes etc. as we have noticed shoes being returned to the desk without a name and unfortunately we cannot contact the parent.
BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS – A friendly reminder that when bad weather hits it is the responsibility of dancer/parent to call the studio where an announcement will be placed on our voicemail indicating whether or not classes be will cancelled.
Please note that the studio will open on the Saturday Family Day Long Weekend (Saturday February 17th, 2018)
Enjoy the rest of February SPRING WILL BE HERE BEFORE WE KNOW IT……
