ARAD, RTS (Ballet) ADAPT (Jazz)
Vanessa Plettell Chevrier is a classically trained ballet dancer with the Royal Academy of Dance. Raised in Lethbridge Alberta, she was a scholarship student for five years at the Banff School of Fine Arts Summer School and in New York City with Alvin Ailey and Joffrey Ballet. Her passion for teaching and choreography has well prepared her students for exams, competitions and performances. She holds her Major Advanced Ballet Dance Certificate and Teaching Certificate and she is a Registered Member with the Royal Academy of Dance (A.R.A.D.). (Read More)
RAD, RTS (Ballet)
Born and raised in Trinidad, Mrs. Hansen’s love of dance, and in particular ballet, was nurtured at one of the Caribbean’s leading RAD accredited schools. She spent her summers at the Royal Academy of Dance headquarters in London, England and became a Principle Dancer with Premiere Productions Dance Company. Graduating Valedictorian from Ryerson University’s Dance Program, she was awarded the prestigious Dance Director’s Award. Having a 100% success rate, Mrs. Hansen is a teaching member with the Royal Academy of Dance and holds her Teaching Certificate with Distinction. She looks forward to sharing her passion for ballet with her students at Vanessa Plettell Dance.
Tap, Acro and Lyrical
Dan began his dance studies as a young man, achieving various awards. He spent many summers under the direction of Mr. Al Gilbert from Hollywood, California. Mr. Contois is a member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA) and has been teaching dance since 1982. Several of his former students on to become professional dancers and certified teachers. In addition, some of his students have been accepted to the National Circus School in Montreal. Dan is well-known in the dance field and his experience and love for dance is one he passes on to his students and fellow teachers.
ADAPT (Tap and Jazz)
Isabella Visentin has been part of the Vanessa Plettell Dance family for 11 years first as a student and now as a teacher. Her choreography has been highly recognized within the competitive dance world. She holds her RAD Vocational Intermediate Ballet and her ADAPT Intermediate 3 Tap certifications and is currently training to become a fully accredited ADAPT tap and jazz teacher. Isabella starred as Mary Poppins in our 2012 end of year production “Mary Poppins Returns”. She has received other lead roles such as: the witch in Children of Aladdin and Mama Odis in Princess and the Frog. Isabella has been teaching at Summer Dance Camp for 10 years and has been managing the program for 5 years. She is currently pursing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Ottawa. She looks forward to another exciting year here at VPD!
Courtney has been involved with Vanessa Plettell Dance for 22 years – as a dancer, a teacher and backstage volunteer during the year end production. During her time as a dancer, she completed her RAD Intermediate Vocational Ballet Exam, her ADAPT Intermediate 3 Jazz Exam, and was a member of the Le Jazz Hot Dance Company. She has performed throughout the Ottawa area, including on Parliament Hill for Canada Day, in Jacques Cartier Park for Winterlude and the Opening of the Trans-Canada trail, and for the televised celebration for the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations at Centrepointe theatre. She always enjoyed the year end productions, and she originated the roll of Dorothy in Ease on Down the Road. More recently she has been the white rabbit in Alice, a wicked Step Sister in Cinderella, and a nanny in Mary Poppins Returns. Outside of dance, Courtney was a competitive gymnast at a young age, then a nationally ranked diver. She’s completed a Bachelor’s in Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University, and a Masters of Science in Kinesiology focusing on biomechanics and sensorimotor neuroscience. Currently, she works as a biomedical engineer at The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre.
Amanda McKay grew up in South Africa where she trained in classical ballet, Jazz, Modern and Tap. Amanda spent many years as part of a professional dance company where she performed at various state and entertainment events. She has been teaching since the age of 18 and enjoys working with children of all ages, as well as teaching adults in free form dance classes for fitness purposes. Amanda also has her teaching certification in NIA which is a movement practice that incorporates dance arts, martial arts and the healing arts in one class. Amanda is part of the faculty at Vanessa Plettell Dance School where she teaches the Creative Dance class and NIA classes for adults.
