Vanessa Plettell-Chevrier (A.R.A.D), (ADAPT)
Vanessa Plettell Chevrier is a classically trained ballet dancer with the Royal Academy of Dance. Raised in Lethbridge Alberta, she was a scholarship student for five years at the Banff School of Fine Arts Summer School and in New York City with Alvin Ailey and Joffrey Ballet. Her passion for teaching and choreography has well prepared her students for exams, competitions and performances. She holds her Major Advanced Ballet Dance Certificate and Teaching Certificate and she is a Registered Member with the Royal Academy of Dance (A.R.A.D.).
Cherisse Hansen, RAD, RTS
Born and raised in Trinidad, Mrs. Hansen’s love of dance, and in particular ballet, was nurtured at one of the Caribbean’s leading RAD accredited schools. She spent her summers at the Royal Academy of the Dance Headquarters in London, England and became a Principle Dancer with Premiere Productions Dance Company. Graduating Valedictorian from Ryerson University’s Dance Program, She was awarded the prestigious Dance Director’s Award. Mrs. Hansen is a teaching member with the Royal Academy of Dance and holds her Teaching Certificate with Distinction. She looks forward to sharing her passion of ballet with her students at Vanessa Plettell Dance.
Kerrie Hartmann, B.Ed., BFA (Spec. Hons.) Dance, TTP Dip. (NBS), RAD-RTS, ARAD, AISTD
Kerrie began dancing at the age of three in Ottawa Ontario, where she studied various forms of dance including ballet, jazz and tap. Pursuing her great passion for ballet, she continued her training at The School of Dance and Vanessa Plettell Dance, as well as at Canada’s National Ballet School in their Professional Program. Kerrie is a graduate of the York University Concurrent Education program, having achieved her Bachelor of Education in the intermediate/senior division (French and Dance) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (Spec. Hons.) Dance. Kerrie is also a graduate of Canada’s National Ballet School’s prestigious Teacher Training Program and is a registered teacher with both the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Kerrie has taught in dance studios across Ottawa and the Greater Toronto Area and has also had the opportunity to share her passion for movement as a guest teacher in a variety of schools and as the head coordinator of the University of Ottawa’s dance camp program. During her career, Kerrie has performed at many local events, and has had the opportunity to perform with the National Ballet of Canada, Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Russia’s Kirov Ballet. Kerrie brings creativity and enthusiasm to the classroom and is dedicated to bringing out the best in her students; with this, she hopes to inspire the next generation of dancers and it is her goal to help foster a passion for self-expression through the arts.
Venessa Goulet, Hip Hop
Venessa’s passion for dance started at the age of three, when she began her training at Extravadance Academy. After dancing ballet, jazz, lyrical and hip hop competitively for many years. Venessa decided to direct her energy and love for dance towards teaching young hip hop students in 2008. With her high energy and fun approach, she hopes to build confidence and character within her students. Her goal is to guide them to create and develop their own style and personality. She feels the best is yet to come. Education: B.A. with spec. in Communications at University of Ottawa.
Caitlin McKay, RAD, ADAPT Tap & Jazz
Caitlin has been a dedicated member of the Vanessa Plettell Dance family for 14 years. She has had many starring roles in the end of the year recitals, such as the Doll in our 2013 performance “Coppelia”, Glenda the Good Witch in 2014 “Simply the Best”, the Selfish Step Sister in “Cinderella” in 2015 and LooLoo the girlfriend in 2016 “Esmeralda”. This year she is starring as “Maleficent”. She is a hard working patron as she has volunteered for the school for 8 years and this will be her 5th year teaching at Summer Camp. We are more than delighted to have Caitlin, a beautiful and hardworking dancer and teacher as part of our team!
Kim Morrison, Acro, ADAPT Jazz
Kim dances for 16 years, 4 years at Ann Holtz and 12 years at Denise Smith Studio. She danced with Le Jazz Hot Dance Company for 7 years. She was a gymnast for 14 years and then a Beam and Floor choreographer for Springfield College M.A. Women’s Gymnastics Team. She has been teaching dance and gymnastics in the Ottawa area since she was 14 years old. Kim continues to teach dance and gymnastics to stay healthy and happy.
Taylor Maxsom, Acro (Acrobatic Arts)
Taylor Maxsom has been trained as a competitive dancer for the past 10 years at a studio focused in Aerial apparatuses as well as Acrobatics. She has practiced many different styles of dance over her dancing career such as Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Tap and Acro. This past year she has put more focus on teaching and choreographing at various studios and community programs and very much enjoys teaching children of all ages. Taylor has taking many examinations through the British Association of Teachers of Dancing and has also achieved her associates in Jazz and Acrobatics. Furthermore she has acquired her certification from The Acrobatics Arts. Taylor has also performed and studied under the arts of Cirque du Soleil. Recently graduated from a French high school in 2016 she is now continuing her education in the medical field at Collège La Cité . She looks forward working with dancers of the studio this year.
Linda Zaremba, RAD
Linda Zaremba started her dance training in Sudbury, Ontario, with Tini Pel, obtaining her RAD Intermediate level before furthering her training in the dance program at York University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Fine Arts (ballet). She also studied in summer programs at the Banff School of Fine Arts and the International Ballet Seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark. She danced professionally with the Alberta Contemporary Dance Theatre, Newfoundland Summer Dance Theatre, and with the touring folk dance company, Holiday in Greece. She taught ballet for Regina Modern Danceworks and for the summer program of Le Groupe de la Place Royale. After moving to Ottawa, she enjoyed continuing her dance life at Le Jazz Hot School of Dance and now enjoys teaching the adult ballet class and beginner pointe at Vanessa Plettell Dance.
Santina De Marinis, RAD, ADAPT Tap & Jazz
Santina has grown up through the dance ranks of Vanessa Plettell Dance since the age of 6. She passed her ADAPT Intermediate 3 Jazz certification and recently distinguished herself with the top ballet score of Distinction in her both her Vocational Advanced 1 Ballet and Grade 7 Royal Academy of Dance. Four professional dance Companies, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Alberta ballet (twice) and American Pennsylvania Ballet Company selected her for their Nutcracker Productions 2011-2014 performed at the National Arts Centre. Not only a talented dancer Santina has also acted in the year end productions her starring role of Dorothy in ‘Eaze on Down the Road’ (Wizard of Oz) in VPD”s 25th Anniversary and Queen Lilac Fairy in the 2017 Production Aurora. Miss De Marinis was thrilled to choreograph for her first competitive solo’s for the 5 & 6 year old ‘Cutie’ division were she successfully won 1st and 2nd Top Scores in the Inspire Competition. Santina has been assisting for over the last 4 years under the guidance of various teachers including Ms. Plettell herself. This season she has proudly under taken the position of teaching the Creative Ballet, Tiny Tappers and Junior Jazz 1.
Wendy De Marinis – Administrator
Wendy has been part of the Vanessa Plettell Dance family for 10 years. She comes with over 15 years of experience with a large Ottawa insurance firm, and worked with a small business for 7 years. Wendy is the proud mother of Santina De Marinis who loves to dance and has inspired her to join the “VPD” family. She enjoys working with all the wonderful parents and students and continues to watch the growth of the studio as well as her daughter.
